A deep-water dock and expansive views of Allen Harbor, the channel and Nantucket Sound beyond were huge selling points, when a family who loves to spend time on the water bought their home in Harwich Port. The homeowners decided to tear down the location’s original structure with the goal of building a home that would better fit the needs and lifestyle as a family with young children.
The new four-bedroom home combines a gambrel roof with classic Cape Cod-style features for a timeless design that captures waterfront views at every opportunity. The spine of the home stretches from the front door to the water-facing open concept living room, kitchen and dining area at the rear of the home, with communal spaces on the first floor branching off the main hall.
Three of the four bedrooms – all on the second floor – have their own balcony with water views; the fourth bedroom, a bunkroom that’s part of the game room wing, provides an ideal space for the kids to entertain friends.
Meanwhile, the two-car garage —with brick flooring, a workbench and fir bead board ceiling with a spar-varnish finish—offers space to store essentials for fishing and boating trips. To enhance the connection between indoor/outdoor spaces, the garage has two sets of carriage doors, that, when opened, offer stunning harbor views straight through the garage, as well as access to the rear patio, outdoor kitchen, fire pit and lounge area.
